Aldershot Athletics

Welcome to Aldershot Athletics!

Welcome to Aldershot Athletics! We are very proud of our athletic program and the ability to offer students many extracurricular sporting opportunities.

After an unprecedented couple of years, we are excited that student athletes will have the opportunity to get involved in both individual and team sports this year. The bigger picture of our inter-school sport seasons is unclear, however, coaches are thrilled to be able to offer extended try-outs and inclusive varsity team practices that will focus exclusively on strength & conditioning and skill & strategy development. Teams will be practicing 2-3 times per week; practice times will be scheduled by the coaches and will take place during common lunch hours or after school.

Coaches will educate and encourage student athletes to follow all strategies for reducing the spread of the COVID virus. This education includes but is not limited to: physical distancing (based on situation), respiratory etiquette, hand hygiene, safe use of a non-medical/cloth mask, daily self-assessment, staying home when feeling ill, and monitoring of symptoms. While masks and/or physical distancing may not be required during active portions of tryouts and/or practices, for some sports in certain situations, coaches and athletes should wear masks and use distance in change rooms, equipment rooms, school hallways and washrooms, during team meetings, modelling of skills, sitting on the bench/sidelines, when watching other teammates scrimmage. There is to be no congregating or gathering prior to, during or after tryouts or practices. Spectators or visitors will not be allowed to attend tryouts/practices. Only coaches and student athletes can attend.

All Student Athletes must:

  • submit a fully completed and printed HDSB Interschool Athletics Package 2021-2022to the Head Coach prior to starting any activity. ***A student can not participate in any activity if this package is not completed nor provided.

  • review and follow the HDSB Student Concussion Prevention and Awareness Resources and Concussion Code of Conduct as shared by coaching staff

  • participate actively in their own injury prevention as outlined in the HDSB Concussion Prevention and Awareness Resource and the Student Concussion Code of Conduct, as well as any additional information reviewed by coaches specific to the activity

  • have their own mask and clearly labelled water bottle for personal use only

  • complete a self assessment daily

  • follow direction and guidance provided by the coaching staff regarding physical distancing (based on situation), respiratory etiquette, hand hygiene, safe use of a non-medical/cloth mask, daily self-assessment, staying home when feeling ill, and monitoring of symptoms

Be part of our winning tradition here at Aldershot! Volunteer coaches are an essential and valued part of our athletic programs. All volunteer coaches will be partnered with at least one teacher from the school. In order to take an active role as a coach you must have a police check & vulnerable sector screen completed. Some of the higher risk sports require additional safety certifications to be completed. Please contact the school for details.
