Raccoon Rabies The Halton Region Health Department has received test results confirming cases of raccoon rabies found in skunks in Burlington. The rabies virus is spread through the saliva of an infected animal, usually entering through a bite or scratch. Halton Health Dept reminds anyone who comes into physical contact with a raccoon or other wild animal to see a physician immediately about post-exposure rabies treatment and to report the exposure to the Health Dept as soon as possible, by calling 311.
