Aldershot Hub, Our Kids Network
Welcome to the new school year.
The Aldershot Hub is in this community to work locally towards Our Kids Network’s vision that “All Children Thrive in Halton”.   Our Kids Network is a network of all the community partners who serve children and youth throughout Halton.
The hub is here to help parents raise children and youth however that is to be interpreted.  We work with other community partners to create programs, and plan for the community.  In the past we have been involved with planning festival events, a Parks and Recreation soccer clinic, 3 annual Jane’s Walks, car and bike safety events, creating Sports 4 You and more.  The hub is a classroom in Holy Rosary School where the YMCA holds a free daily Beyond the Bell program for Holy Rosary students during the school year and Beyond the Bell 6 week summer camp in July and August.  It is also used for the Fresh Food Box program open to everyone, $20 for fresh fruit and vegetables monthly. The hub hosts Partnering Aldershot monthly where all the local partners connect to network and address local issues.  The Youth Committee of Partnering Aldershot developed three 6 weeks community kitchens for youth, hosted by St Matthews Church last year. The is also where Sibshops are held.  Sibshops are for children 7-14 years of age who have siblings with special needs.  The hub has a piano which a local teenage volunteer uses to teach children to play at no charge.
To help families directly the hub is open for dropping in on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 6 PM.  Access into the hub is through the Gallagher street door, the one with the ramp.  Dropping in means access to groceries for families with tight budgets, and also information re. community resources.  The Halton Police Department’s Toys for Tots program runs through the hub and struggling families are welcome to ask for that help at Christmas time, starting in November.
This is not the complete picture of how the hub is involved in Aldershot and how you can use it.
