Aldershot I-STEM

In spring 2018, the Board of Trustees approved a unique program of study at Aldershot High School. The I-STEM (Innovation - Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) program at Aldershot High School is a result of many months of consultation. An overview of the process used to develop the program and the program components is available via video (here).

I-STEM will begin in September 2019 for students entering grade 9. Information regarding 4-year program and the application process for the 2019-2020 school year will be provided by fall 2018.

In a world of continual change with evolving science, technology and innovation, the focus of the program will be to develop global citizens who contribute to solving complex economic, social and environmental problems. Innovation will drive the program with an emphasis of STEM skills to support the learning.

The I-STEM program will equip students with global competencies (i.e., critical thinking, problem solving, innovation, creativity, entrepreneurship, self-directed learning, collaboration, communication and citizenship). Project-based learning, design thinking, entrepreneurial thinking and experiential learning opportunities through community and post-secondary partnerships will be essential elements of the program to enhance learning opportunities for students.

Note: The I-STEM 4 year program of study will align with Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum expectations.
